Recently, suspected criminals vandalized and stole 120 meters of electrical wires from a three-phase power line in Katanda 1 Village, Rubirizi District, during the night of January 16-17, 2025.

Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke warned that those found guilty of such crimes will face severe penalties, including imprisonment of up to 12 years or a fine of 1 billion shillings, as per the Electricity Amendment Act of 2022.

Rusoke specifically cautioned transporters, buyers, and those providing storage for stolen items, stating that ignorance of the offense will not be accepted as a defense.

This warning comes as the police intensify efforts to combat vandalism and in related incidents, the police have arrested individuals involved in vandalizing road furniture and vehicles in Kampala.

Additionally, the police have warned scrap dealers against buying stolen items, emphasizing that excuses will not be tolerated.
