Rubirizi Health Sector Makes Major Leap in National Performance Rankings

Rubirizi District's health services have climbed 32 places in national rankings, from 46th last year to 14th this year, with officials crediting the leap to teamwork, community outreaches and listening to patients. The achievement was announced at a Performance Review Meeting that brought together health workers, facility in-charges, district officials and sub-county leaders to assess Malaria, TB and HIV indicators and plan further improvements.

The development was unveiled by the Rubirizi District Health Educator, Dr. Patience Ainomugisha, during the Performance Review Meeting to assess performance on Malaria, Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV indicators for the previous years.

The meeting, held at the District Headquarters on Friday, brought together health workers, health facility in-charges, district officials and sub-county leadership to review data, services and health worker performance and propose action plans for improvement.

Patience noted that the district’s leap from 46th to 14th position represents a major step forward, attributing the success to hard work, data-driven decision-making, community outreaches, collaboration with health workers and partners, and listening to the people.

“Rubirizi has made a very big step, moving from 46 to 14, because of hard work, following data, doing outreaches in the community, working together with health workers and partners, and listening to the people,” Patience said.

The District Health Educator explained that the review aimed at examining where the district is performing well, where it is failing, and where it needs to improve, while also reviewing data, services, and health worker performance to identify gaps to be fixed.

She added that the review helps health workers hear community feedback and put in place plans that ensure people receive good quality services, noting that the meeting would greatly help them improve service delivery.

“This review meeting will help us very much to improve, to hear feedback coming from the community and to put in place plans that will help to give the people good quality service,” Patience added.

Dr. Primu Niwamanya, the Health In-Charge of Rugazi Health Centre IV, noted that the continuous organisation of Performance Review Meetings has greatly helped health workers improve their performance and ensure patients receive quality services.

He explained that the meetings bring health workers together to review their data performance, offer advice on where to improve services, and help facilities address areas of weakness and focus more effort where needed.

“These meetings bring us together as health workers to review our data performance, to give us advice on where to improve services, and to help our facilities address areas where we are failing and where we need to put more effort,” Niwamanya noted.

Dr. Niwamanya urged the District Leadership to continue organising the reviews every quarter, pledging that Rugazi HC IV will keep working hard to deliver quality, transparent, and trustworthy government services to patients on time.

The meeting resolved to use the review to check quality improvement, ensure good service delivery, promote accountability, and push Rubirizi from 14th to Number 1 in the entire country.
