Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Kafureeka, also known as Jack Jex, made the remarks on Monday at the commencement of a three-day induction training for municipal councillors from the Eastern, Central and Western divisions held at Trendz Main Hall.
He urged councillors to promote unity and cooperation regardless of their political affiliations, calling on them to put aside disagreements arising from the recent elections and focus on service delivery.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Local Government for this timely intervention. This training will shape our councillors into leaders who understand their mandate and serve our people better. Let us put aside disagreements from the recent elections and work as one team. Our people voted for us not because of party colours, but because they believe we can deliver services. It is now time to walk the talk,” Mayor Kafureeka noted.
The Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Local Government, Ketty Gafa, and lead facilitator Wamanya Zanikire reminded the leaders that their primary responsibility is to fulfil their mandate of extending services to the community.
Zanikire emphasised the importance of understanding rules of procedure, budgeting and oversight, urging councillors to perform their duties without clashing with civil servants.
“Understanding your roles and boundaries is key. Work hand in hand with the technical staff; confrontation will only delay service delivery. Let this training equip you to supervise effectively without undermining the civil servants,” Zanikire noted.
Meanwhile, Ntungamo Municipal Acting Principal Assistant Town Clerk Ainomugisha Coleta appealed to the councillors to embrace the training and put the knowledge acquired into practice.
The Municipal Speaker, Francis Twesigye, described the training as timely, saying it would help councillors better understand and exercise the principles of good governance.
