The arrest allegedly followed allegations that Kimulya Solomon defiled a 9-year-old girl, with sources revealing a breach of trust as the suspect rented within the same compound as the victim’s family.
The suspect, who does not cook for himself, was frequently given food by the victim’s parents, which the young girl would deliver to him, and it is alleged that he used these opportunities to sexually exploit the child.
The abuse reportedly extended beyond a single incident, as the victim testified that the suspect committed a similar act against her younger sibling during the last school holidays, but both children were too frightened to report it to their parents.
Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that the ordeal came to light on Wednesday, 30th September, at approximately 07:00 AM, when the young victim finally confided in her mother, who immediately informed her husband.
The husband, with the help of other community members, apprehended the suspect and took him to the police station for interrogation, where the scene of the crime was visited and statements were obtained from the victim and key witnesses.
Maate affirmed that the suspect has been formally charged as inquiries continue, noting that the case is under active investigation to establish the full truth and that the suspect remains in custody and will face the full force of the law.
“We commend the victim for her courage in speaking out, and we urge parents and guardians to remain vigilant and encourage open communication with their children. This case is under active investigation to establish the full truth, and the suspect remains in custody and will face the full force of the law,” said Elly Maate.
The police have since encouraged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and encourage open communication with their children to prevent such heinous acts.
