NTUNGAMO – The Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Gerald Karuhanga, has urged the government to establish sub-regional industrial parks across the country as a way of boosting Uganda’s economy.

Hon. Karuhanga noted that many small-scale manufacturers, including people producing juice and soft drinks, are currently operating from rented houses or homes because of limited access to suitable industrial facilities.
“We have many small manufacturers, including people who make juice and soft drinks. They are working from rented houses or their own homes because they cannot find good places to work. This is dangerous. It can put the safety of consumers at risk and make it very hard to control how these products are made,” MP Karuhanga noted.
The lawmaker cited Namanve as an industrial park that provides infrastructure such as electricity and water, saying similar facilities at the sub-regional level could help attract investment and create jobs within communities.
He argued that building industrial parks on five to ten acres of land in different areas would give young people opportunities, including fresh graduates and those displaced from Ntungamo Central Forest Reserve after NEMA operations.
Hon. Karuhanga noted that Uganda’s large and fast-growing young population needs deliberate government investment in industries that can provide real employment, especially for those entering the job market each year.
“We must build industrial parks on five to ten acres of land in different areas to create opportunities for our young people. Uganda’s young population needs deliberate government investment in industries that provide jobs, so our young people do not have to go abroad for work, including domestic and security jobs in Arab countries,” he said.
Meanwhile, the legislator noted that he would table the proposal before Parliament, explaining that it could boost industrialization and create much-needed employment opportunities for Ugandans.
