RUBIRIZI – Youth leaders in Rubirizi District have initiated a Youth Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO), an initiative designed to be a game-changer for youth empowerment and economic transformation.

The Rubirizi Youth Council Chairperson, Turyahebwa Chris, vowed that the Council will take firm action against those who took Youth Livelihood Program funds and misused them, insisting that defaulters must return the money or face arrest and imprisonment.
He revealed that over 600 million shillings in Youth Livelihoods funds were taken by beneficiaries who failed to repay, noting that this money, meant for youth empowerment, is still held by defaulters and has dragged the youth behind and blocked development.
“Currently, Rubirizi District has over 600 million shillings of the Youth Livelihoods funds that were taken by youth beneficiaries who ‘ate’ the money and failed to repay it. This money, which was meant for youth empowerment, is still held by defaulters,” Chris said.
The Chairperson appealed to the youth to embrace the proper use of the SACCO funds in developmental projects rather than taking alcohol and engaging in immorality, urging them to embrace government programs, work hard, and participate in hands-on projects that will transform their lives.
The District male youth Councillor, Ainebyona Francis Goroke, applauded and commended the district member of Parliament, Benjamin Cadet, along with Alineitwe Jeniva Nalongo, for their continued support towards youth empowerment.
He revealed that youth leaders are slated to engage all youth across Rubirizi to actively get involved in the SACCO savings, as it will help them cultivate a saving culture and start their own income-generating projects that will lift them out of poverty.
“Instead of sitting idle with begging hands asking for money from leaders, and resorting to theft which eventually leads them into committing crimes and ending up in prison, the Youth SACCO is intended to lift all youth out of poverty,” Goroke said.
The ruling NRM Youth League Rubirizi district Chairperson, Nickolas Twinamatsiko, encouraged the youth leaders to serve the youth with transparency, integrity, and accountability, helping the government to fight against corruption in youth funds.
He noted that the government gives 30 million shillings for youth development, but some leaders allegedly steal it, thus urging the youth to save through the SACCO, avoid corruption, and stay disciplined, united, responsible, and respectful.
