RUKUNGIRI – The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) for Rukungiri District, Mable Mirembe Karazarwe, has warned the public against paying bribes to access funds under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP).

“There is no registration fee or any other payment required for one to access UWEP funds. People must be vigilant and cautious of individuals demanding money in exchange for help,” Karazarwe stated.
She explained that the UWEP funds are specifically intended to support women, youth, and persons with disabilities to engage in income-generating activities, thereby improving their livelihoods and fostering economic independence.

Karazarwe urged people from villages, constituencies, and sub-counties to seek guidance from relevant government officials, especially their Community Development Officer (CDO), Commercial Officer, or Sub-county Chairperson.
She explained that applicants must first submit their applications, which are assessed through the appropriate UWEP structures before successful beneficiaries receive the funds.
She also cautioned against giving money to fraudsters who claim to guarantee access to UWEP funds, stressing that no payment should be made to obtain the programme’s funds.

Meanwhile, the authorities have since called upon the public to report to the relevant offices anyone demanding money from them in exchange for access to UWEP funds.
