KASESE – The security guard employed by Jimark Security Company in Kasese District has allegedly taken his own life by poisoning, under circumstances that are yet to be established by investigators.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Kangalighali Stephen Masereka, a resident of Kyondo Cell, Nyamwamba Division, in Kasese Municipality, who allegedly ingested a poisonous substance on the morning of Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Sources indicate that the Kyondo Cell area chairperson, at approximately 8:00 AM, was informed that the deceased’s room had been seen locked and that there was a smell of rat poison coming from the said room.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, noted that the chairperson promptly alerted the Officer-in-Charge of Rukoki Police Station, who responded without delay alongside other law enforcement officers.
Maate added that upon arrival at the scene, police were forced to break into the locked room, where they made the heartbreaking discovery of Masereka’s lifeless body lying on the floor.
The body was later retrieved and subsequently conveyed to the Kasese Municipal Health Centre Mortuary for a postmortem examination to conclusively establish the exact cause of death.
“We have commenced investigations into this unfortunate incident. Our officers responded swiftly upon receiving the report from the area chairperson, and the scene was properly documented. We appeal to the public to remain calm and allow the investigative process to take its course without speculation,” Maate noted.
The police have since confirmed that the incident has been classified as a suspected suicide case, with inquiries currently underway to uncover the circumstances leading to this unfortunate event.
