KAMPALA – Uganda’s readiness to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) alongside Kenya and Tanzania has reached 80%, with stadium construction and renovation nearing completion with just nine months to go.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027 is scheduled to kick off on June 19, 2027, as the three East African countries prepare to co-host the tournament.
Dr. Dennis Mugimba confirmed that Uganda is making impressive progress in stadium construction, supplier registration, and promotional campaign planning for AFCON 2027.
He added that the government is providing all the necessary funds, with the country confidently marching towards hosting a top-class tournament that will make the nation proud.
Mugimba noted that three host stadiums are progressing well, with Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium now 80% complete and ahead of schedule, Hoima City Stadium having fixed 95% of earlier issues, and Mandela National Stadium on track to be ready by December 31, 2026.
The encouraging progress report follows a successful second inspection by CAF, which assessed Uganda’s sports facilities and expressed confidence in the country’s readiness.
Beyond the main stadia, Uganda is building twelve training grounds, with ten set for completion by December and the remaining two, FUFA Kadiba and Sir Tito Winyi, expected by January 2027.
The head of LOC Communications noted that a significant business opportunity has opened up for Ugandan companies, with 850 suppliers already successfully registered and 650 pre-qualified for AFCON 2027 procurement tenders.
The LOC is actively encouraging firms in hospitality, catering, transport, and logistics to apply, while CAF has also extended invitations to local businesses to bid for its own high-value procurement contracts.
The tournament logo, mascot, and theme song are currently being finalized in close collaboration with CAF, which will coordinate a joint promotional launch across all three host nations simultaneously.
The LOC has expressed deep and sincere gratitude to the Ugandan government for providing full and timely funding for both infrastructure development and tournament operations.
