Sources allege that the deceased was lynched from a cassava plantation before his body was dragged through a fence for approximately 20 meters to the farm where it was eventually discovered.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, noted that police swiftly responded to the grim discovery, dispatching a team of officers and scene-of-crime specialists to the location.
However, despite introducing a well-trained sniffer dog to pick up the scent and thoroughly comb the area, the track was unfortunately lost within a short distance, leaving investigators with no immediate leads to follow.
Maate confirmed the unidentified deceased had no documents on him, complicating efforts to establish his identity, thus urging anyone with a missing person to check at Kasese Health Center III Mortuary, where a postmortem is scheduled.
“We are urging our people to desist from acts of lawlessness. Investigations into this matter are still ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served,” Maate stated.
The police spokesperson further warned against lawlessness and mob justice, emphasizing that such acts are unacceptable, and reassured the public that inquiries are actively continuing.
