KABALE – The Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, Ms. Peace Rugambwa, has pledged a significant financial top-up to the Kabale Boda Boda Riders SACCO, commending the members’ exceptional discipline and commitment to self-improvement through savings.

Just eight months ago, in November 2025, Ms. Rugambwa delivered UGX 150 million to various community groups in Kabale, acting on President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to uplift Ugandans lacking start-up capital.
While the outreach benefited a broad spectrum of groups, including Owino Market Vendors, Ghetto Youth, Tomato and Fresh Foods Traders, and Car Wash Operators, it was the Boda Boda Riders who captured the advisor’s attention with their remarkable fiscal responsibility.
Addressing a sea of boda boda riders, SPA Peace Rugambwa expressed profound admiration for their collective resolve, noting they had formed a genuine association rather than a fleeting group chasing quick handouts.
She commended their unwavering dedication to saving and growing their SACCO, pledging more funds to accelerate their progress and transform their commitment into sustainable development.
“The commitment I have seen here today is what transforms aid into sustainable development. You have proven that you are not here for the money alone; you are here for the mission. Because of your unwavering dedication to saving and growing your SACCO, I pledge to inject more funds to accelerate your progress,” SPA Peace stated.
Sunday Remegio, Chairman of the Freedom Boda Boda Stage at Owino Market, revealed that while each stage received approximately UGX 100,000 from the initial disbursement, the real success lies in their daily discipline of saving UGX 5,000 per member per day.
He noted that since the initiative began, the riders have collectively saved over one million shillings from their own pockets, funds they are actively using to improve livelihoods and support their families.
“We have cultivated a culture of saving. Every member subscribes UGX 5,000 per day. Since the inception of this initiative, we have collectively saved over one million shillings from our own pockets alone. This money is not just sitting there; we are using it to improve our livelihoods and support our families,” Remegio explained.
Tukwasibwe Pias, Chairman of the Kamukira Nyakambu Boda Boda Stage, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Peace Rugambwa for ending the long neglect of upcountry riders who had watched Kampala colleagues benefit from Presidential initiatives.
Tukwasibwe acknowledged that Rugambwa had connected Kabale riders to empowerment opportunities, expressing profound gratitude to the President for choosing her to uplift their community.
“For a long time, it felt like the Boda Boda riders in Kampala were the only ones benefiting from Presidential initiatives. Peace Rugambwa has removed that thread. She has connected us to the source of empowerment, and we are deeply grateful to the President for sending her to elevate us here in Kabale,” Tukwasibwe noted.
SPA Rugambwa, who is the founder of the Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group, was specifically trusted by the President to directly empower the “common person”, those who had historically remained on the periphery of development.
The additional funding is expected to provide a substantial boost to the SACCO’s loan portfolio, enabling more riders to upgrade their motorcycles, access health insurance, and improve their household incomes.
