The directive was issued in a press release on July 31, 2026, as the officials face criminal proceedings before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of embezzlement and causing financial loss to the public purse.

The interdiction order targets seven senior parliamentary staff members, including Chris Ariko Oboe (Director of Communications and Public Affairs), Adilo Daniel (Director of Human Resource), and Rajab Kaaya Sesemalulu (Principal Research Officer).

Others include Okwi Emmanuel Emuron (Principal Protocol Officer), Otebata Vincent (Capacity Development Officer), Okema Leonard (Executive Secretary, Office of the Speaker), and Ms. Itute Stella (Office Supervisor, Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms).

The officials were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on July 1, 2026, where they were formally charged with embezzlement and causing financial loss, contrary to the Anti-Corruption Act.

The case currently proceeds through the judicial system as they remain in custody pending the determination of the criminal proceedings against them.

Meanwhile, the IGG’s directive ensures that, pending the final determination of these proceedings, the seven officials are interdicted and suspended from exercising the powers and functions of their respective offices in the public interest.

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, in her capacity, has since invoked Article 230 of the Constitution to issue orders and directions necessary in the circumstances of any investigation or findings.

The statement further emphasized that public interest demands the suspension of the officials from exercising the powers and functions of their offices while the case remains pending before the Anti-Corruption Court.
