Sources have it that Musa was intercepted by a crowd that, upon alleging he was in possession of stolen property, unleashed a brutal vigilante assault that left him dead at the scene before medical help could arrive.
The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, said that officers responded promptly to the distress call and that the body was conveyed to the mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
SP Tumushime condemned mob justice as both illegal and dehumanizing, while urging communities to report suspects to the police and allow the courts to deliver due justice.
“Vigilantism is not only illegal but also dehumanizing. No one has the right to inflict harm or take another person’s life, regardless of the suspicion. We urge the community to always report suspected criminals to the nearest police station. Justice must be served through the courts, not through the streets,” SP Tumushime stated.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the perpetrators involved in the fatal assault and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
