KABALE – School administrators have been urged to regularly conduct fire containment drills to equip learners with essential fire-fighting techniques and instill critical survival reflexes on how to respond in actual fire emergencies.

The fire emergency, which was responded to by the Kabale Police Fire and Rescue Services upon receiving distress calls, was promptly managed and stopped from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, confirmed that the Fire and Rescue officers responded with remarkable speed and professionalism, swiftly bringing the blaze under control before it could spread further.
“Officers acted with speed and professionalism to ensure the fire was brought under control,” stated SP Tumushime.
He added that assessment teams remain on the ground evaluating the structural integrity of the affected sections, as authorities work to determine the full scope of damage and any losses incurred.
The Police Spokesperson confirmed that no casualties were registered in the fire outbreak, and that police investigations into the cause of the inferno have been launched.
Meanwhile, SP Tumushime urged school administrators to ensure that all student dormitories are fitted with clear, unobstructed emergency exits and that overcrowding is strictly avoided to facilitate safe evacuations.
He further stressed that institutions should conduct fire drills at least once every term and equip learners with basic fire-fighting techniques, alongside proper responses during real fire emergencies.
“School administrators should ensure that students’ dormitories have clear emergency exits and are not overcrowded. We also encourage schools to conduct fire drills at least once every term and teach students how to put out some of these fires,” said SP Tumushime.
The authorities have confirmed the launch of the investigations as the community awaits further updates regarding the cause of the fire and the fate of the school’s infrastructure.
