The suspects in custody have been identified as Kiseka Richard, 40, Kakule Sibandera, 23, Mukonyezi Ian, 17, and Ashanjaho Frank, 18, who allegedly carried out the attack on a community around Nyakabingo Town Council.

Reliable reports indicate the suspects, allegedly armed with an AK-47 and machetes, forcefully gained entry into a residence in Rugarambiro Cell, Eastern Ward, where they terrorized the occupants.

The armed robbers allegedly made off with a substantial haul that included two motor vehicles, an undisclosed sum of money, laptop computers, and two mobile phones.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Tumushime Nelson confirmed the development, saying that officers from Kanungu responded promptly to distress calls and mounted a coordinated operation to track down the culprits.

He added that the team intercepted the stolen vehicles while still in the possession of the suspects, including a Toyota Fielder (UBM 425G) and a Hilux Double Cabin Pickup (UA 789EM), which were impounded.

Tumushime praised the swift professionalism of officers and lauded community-police cooperation for the timely apprehension of the suspects, while reassuring the public that investigations remain active.

“I want to commend our officers for their professionalism and swift action in responding to this incident. The cooperation between the police and the community played a vital role in ensuring that these suspects were apprehended before they could escape justice,” said Tumushime.

Meanwhile, the four suspects are being held at Kanungu Police Station as investigations proceed, as they face charges of Aggravated Robbery and Attempted Murder, offenses that carry severe penalties in Uganda.
