KAMPALA – The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held talks with the leadership of Nation Media Group (NMG) to address the ongoing closure of its media outlets, including NTV Uganda, Spark TV, and the Daily Monitor.

The meeting was also attended by veteran journalist and PLU member Andrew Mwenda, alongside Acting UPDF/Defence Public Information Director, Col. Chris Magezi.
The shutdown of NMG Uganda’s outlets was ordered directly by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who slammed the media group for a sustained “blackmail campaign” against the state.
Sources allege that the action was also prompted by the group’s perceived promotion of opposition and foreign narratives detrimental to national cohesion.
The closed-door meeting saw both sides review in detail instances of reporting deemed biased by the government, with NMG’s leadership pledging to embrace greater patriotism, balance, and objectivity in their future coverage.
Meanwhile, the discussions continue as part of a broader engagement to end the impasse between the media group and state authorities.
Gen. Kainerugaba has since confirmed he will present a formal report on the discussions to the President for consideration before a final decision on reopening the premises is made.
