The fire, which occurred on Monday at around 10:45 PM along Garage Street in Kakoba Division, is said to have engulfed an electronics shop belonging to Fred Tumusiime, 55, a resident of Nyakaizi, Kakoba Division.

Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira confirmed to this reporter that the Fire and Rescue Team rushed to the scene and worked tirelessly to contain the inferno upon notification.

Kasasira said that the team successfully extinguished the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjacent rooms within the building, though the affected shop’s contents suffered total damage.

Reliable sources indicate that the shop owner, Mr. Fred, was trapped inside his premises when the fire broke out, thus sustaining severe burns before being rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

Kasasira said that they have cordoned off the scene as investigations into the cause of the fire remain ongoing, with authorities assuring the public that a thorough inquiry will be conducted.

“We responded promptly to the distress call and our team managed to contain the situation. However, the property was completely destroyed. The owner is receiving medical attention, as we continue our investigations,” stated SP Kasasira.

The Police spokesperson further urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue to establish the circumstances behind the incident.
