RUBANDA – Police have launched an intensive manhunt for the suspect in connection with the brutal stabbing murder of a 7-year-old male juvenile and pupil at Hamukobakoba Nursery School in Rubanda District.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Ainebyona Hosea, 7, a young boy who was allegedly fatally attacked on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at approximately 6:00 PM while returning from school.
The prime suspect, now at large, has been identified as Ainamani Bureya, 17, who is believed to have used a blunt object, suspected to be a panga (machete), to execute the heinous attack on the victim.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, told this reporter that upon receiving the distress call, officers from Rubanda rushed to the scene, processed it, and collected crucial evidence from witnesses.
SP Tumushime has since issued a strong advisory urging parents and guardians to escort their nursery and primary school children to and from school without fail.
He cautioned that the vulnerability of young pupils makes them highly susceptible to dangers, especially when traveling unaccompanied along remote routes.
“This gruesome murder of an innocent seven-year-old child is not only a heinous crime but a wake-up call to every parent and school administrator in this region. We are urging all parents to personally escort their young learners to and from school, because the vulnerability of these little ones makes them easy targets for heartless individuals,” said SP Tumushime.
SP Tumushime further directed school administrators to immediately review safety protocols and enforce robust measures that guarantee learners are securely handed over to parents after classes.
The Police Spokesperson reassured the public that police are tirelessly working to apprehend the suspect, while appealing to anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station without delay.
