RUBIRIZI – Husband was allegedly killed by a mob in Rubirizi District after a heated altercation with his wife last weekend that attracted the intervention of members of the community.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Mwebe James, 53, a resident of Kirugu Village, Kirugu Sub-county, who allegedly had a domestic dispute with his wife, Namusoke Stella, on the evening of April 12, 2026.
Sources indicate that the disagreement between the couple at their home quickly drew the attention of neighbors who gathered to intervene but allegedly resorted to violence, assaulting the victim on the spot.
The following morning, on April 13, 2026, Mwebe (the deceased), suffering from severe injuries sustained during the assault, was rushed by relatives to Kyenzaza Health Center III, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival by the medical staff on duty.
The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, confirmed the incident, saying officers responded swiftly. Detectives visited the scene, gathered forensic evidence, and recorded witness statements.
The body of the deceased was later conveyed to the mortuary at Rugazi Health Center IV, where a postmortem examination was conducted to legally establish the exact cause of death.
Prior to the incident, the deceased’s wife was arrested as the key suspect to aid police investigations, while efforts continue to identify and arrest other assault suspects.
“The wife of the deceased is currently in police custody to assist police in furthering their investigations. As the police, we strongly condemn acts of mob justice and domestic violence. Members of the public should always resolve disputes through lawful means and report incidents to police,” said SP Tayebwa.
Investigations are underway as police continue to provide further updates concerning the incident.
