KANUNGU, UGANDA – Muslims in Kanungu District have been encouraged to carry the lessons of the sacred month into their daily lives as they gathered at various mosques to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The plea was made by district Muslim leaders as they joined their counterparts worldwide to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on the morning of the first day of Shawwal, 1447 AH.

Leading the prayers at the Kihiihi Main Mosque, the Kanungu District Khadi, Sheikh Abudallah Rajjabu Mpabuka, called on Muslims to continue embracing the spirit of sharing, unity, compassion, and forgiveness that defined Ramadan.

Sheikh Mpabuka encouraged believers to maintain the discipline, generosity, and good conduct practiced during the 30-day fast.

He remarked that such virtues are not to be abandoned after Ramadan but are instead the essence of faith, meant to guide interactions with family, neighbors, and the wider community throughout the year.

The Khadi further urged citizens to remain law-abiding, God-fearing, and committed to educating their children, noting that education is a key foundation for a secure and prosperous future.

The Imam of Kihiihi Main Mosque, Ahmed Jafali, urged Muslims to avoid harmful behaviors such as theft and other social vices, reminding them that Ramadan is a period of spiritual transformation meant to lead to lasting positive change.

He further encouraged continued cooperation between leaders and communities to promote development initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, at the Kanungu District Main Mosque, the Imam, Sheikh Umaru Rajabu, urged Muslims to remain steadfast in their faith and continue practicing the discipline and good behavior cultivated during Ramadan.

Sheikh Rajabu noted with concern that some Muslims abandon these virtues shortly after the fasting period, thereby diminishing the spiritual benefits gained through a month of worship, prayer, charity, and self-restraint.

The Eid al-Fitr celebrations across the district were marked by a spirit of togetherness and inclusivity, featuring acts of charity, sharing of meals, exchanging gifts, and gatherings with family, friends, and neighbors.
