The development was revealed by the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, during a comprehensive update on the progress of investigations into a surge of aggravated robberies that plagued the district throughout February 2026.

In a weekly media briefing, SP Tayebwa detailed the coordinated efforts by police and sister security agencies that have led to significant breakthroughs, including the arrest of four suspects who are currently in custody.

The aggravated robberies occurred in Kyeitembe West Cell on 2nd and 17th February, Kyanyamabona Village on 2nd February, as well as in Katungu Cell on 15th February and Katooma Cell on 18th February.

Tayebwa noted that while the use of firearms initially caused panic among residents, community vigilance proved crucial in the sixth incident at Katooma Cell.

At one of the scenes, members of the public caught a suspect, Kankiriho Ramathan alias Samuel, red-handed while he was allegedly robbing a bar, before handing him over to Police, where he was subsequently arrested.

Ramathan, who was a private security personnel, was arraigned in court on Friday, 27th February 2026, facing three counts of aggravated robbery, where sufficient evidence was established.

The Police Spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the remaining three firearm-related case files are still ongoing, as authorities work to gather more evidence.

Police further confirmed six other aggravated robberies where suspects used pangas, sticks, and stones, with incidents reported in Kagati Village, Kashenyi Town, Kaburengye, Nyakatooma, and two in Bugomora Cell.

Three suspects have been apprehended, including Byampiika Eliad alias Boyize, Ssekajja Ramathan alias Kyojo, and Basajja Rashid, who were charged and presented before court on Friday, 27th February 2026.

SP Tayebwa confirmed that while the trio has been remanded to custody as legal proceedings continue, other suspects who were identified during the investigations remain at large.

Assuring the public that intelligence-led operations are actively ongoing to apprehend the fugitives, Police commended the vigilance of the public and urged continued cooperation.
