KISORO, UGANDA – Police imaging reports indicate that the wife, alleged to have stabbed her husband to death in Kisoro District, acted in self-defense.

The tragic incident occurred on April 7, 2026, at approximately 1:00 AM at the couple’s home in Gasenyi Village, Mabungo Parish, Nyarusiza Sub-county, Kisoro District.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, reports indicate that on the fateful night, the deceased returned home in a state of intoxication and immediately engaged in a heated verbal altercation with his wife.
The confrontation, which unfolded in the presence of their son, Irakiza Fabiano, 15, allegedly saw the deceased arm himself with a knife and attempt to stab his wife during the quarrel.
Investigations reveal that in a desperate struggle for survival, the wife overpowered him, managed to wrestle the weapon away, and proceeded to stab him twice in the back before she fled to an unknown location.
Maate confirmed to this reporter that the incident was reported to police by the area chairperson, Venansi Munyanganizi, after which a team of police officers immediately visited the crime scene, which was thoroughly documented.
Critical exhibits, including the murder weapon (a knife) and a slasher, were recovered from the scene, while the deceased’s body was conveyed to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police confirmed that preliminary inquiries show the couple had a long history of domestic violence, which they termed a tragic culmination of persistent marital conflict, as efforts to arrest the suspect continue.
