Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In an appeal dated April 7, 2026, traders led by their Chairperson, Muhinda Fred, put forward a three-pronged request aimed at balancing regulatory compliance with the survival of small businesses.
The traders urge the Town Council to extend the enforcement deadline to July 1, 2026, allowing affected businesses sufficient time to relocate to new premises without disruption.
They are pressing for the allocation of a designated market area, a long-standing request, to accommodate daily traders effectively and provide them with a structured trading environment.
The petition further calls for a sensitization meeting with business owners and landowners to guide them on upgrading their premises to meet required physical planning standards before any demolition, ensuring full compliance with existing regulations.
The coming days, it will become clear whether the council opts for strict enforcement of the April 15 deadline or accommodates the business community’s plea for more time.
