RUKUNGIRI, UGANDA – A boda boda rider in Rukungiri district was pronounced dead at the scene after he struck a pedestrian while riding on the Rukungiri–Kihihi highway, allegedly due to overspeeding.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Rogers Abisinguza, 26, a resident of Rumira Cell, who tragically hit and injured a pedestrian, John Bosco Byaruhanga, 28, a resident of Kakirago II Cell. Both are from Bugangari parish/sub-county in Rukungiri district.
The incident occurred on Sunday at about 4:00 PM at Kakirago II Cell, Bugangari Parish, when the deceased, on motorcycle (UFS 906W), was traveling from Rukungiri town towards Kihihi.
Sources allege that Rogers was riding at high speed and hit Byaruhanga, the pedestrian, who was moving on the road shoulder on the left-hand side of the vehicular lane of the Rukungiri–Kihihi Road.
Tragically, Rogers died on the spot, while Byaruhanga sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Bagahwe Health Facility, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and said that police officers promptly visited and documented the scene before clearing it.
The deceased’s body was transported to Bugangari Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination, and the motorcycle involved in the accident was impounded and parked at the police yard pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
“Tragically, after the accident, Rogers died on the spot while Byaruhanga sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Bagahwe Health Facility. Police promptly documented the scene. The body is at Bugangari Health Centre IV mortuary, and the motorcycle is impounded pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles,” Maate confirmed.
Maate further reiterated the police’s appeal to all road users to exercise caution, avoid overspeeding, and always adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such senseless loss of life.
