The deceased has been identified as Ngambeki Spiriano, 51, who died instantly after a violent altercation with his former wife, Nzabaruntume Dinavance, 48, of Group Farm B Cell, Kibimbiri Parish, Kanungu District.

Reliable sources allage that the suspect and the deceased were once married and shared children, a family unit that was fractured years prior to their eventual separation.

Following their split, Spiriano relocated to Kebisoni in Rukungiri district to start a new family, while his former wife, Dinavance, remained in their Kanungu marital home caring for her grandchild.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, when Ngambeki, after traveling to Kanungu with his second wife, left her at Kibimbiri Trading Centre and proceeded alone to his former wife’s home.

Upon his arrival, the two allegedly engaged in a serious fight behind their house and both sustained severe injuries, and unfortunately, the man succumbed to his wounds on the spot.

Realizing her husband had died, the suspect allegedly called their son-in-law, Benon, instructing him to pick up his child before she then attempted to flee the scene.

Upon arriving at the home, Benon discovered his father-in-law’s lifeless body near the back door from which he raised an alarm, alerting neighbors who swiftly mobilized and apprehended the fleeing Dinavance.

Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that upon notification, police responded immediately, taking the suspect into custody and launching a thorough investigation of the crime scene.

Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the crime scene was processed and witness statements taken, noting the critical discovery of the victim’s original clothes discarded in a latrine after the body had been washed and re-dressed.

“Our officers documented the scene and recorded witness statements. In a critical find, we recovered the victim’s alleged clothes, discarded in a latrine, after the body had been cleaned and re-dressed in an apparent attempt to alter the scene,” confirmed Elly Maate.

The body of the late Spiriano was conveyed to Kihihi Health Center IV for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Maate confirmed the injured suspect is now in custody, receiving treatment and undergoing questioning as police inquiries continue to piece together the events that sparked the fatal altercation.
