Speaking during a one-day meeting of the Bufumbira Twifatanye Saving and Credit Cooperative Ltd, held at the Mayor’s Garden in Kisoro Municipality, Gen. Kayihura emphasized the importance of saving even small amounts of money, which can accumulate over time and significantly improve household income.

He urged residents to engage in business and income-generating projects, while avoiding disorganization and practices that contribute to poverty.

Gen. Kayihura, who also serves as the chairperson of the cooperative, called on members to work together, stressing that cooperation, unity, and harmony are key to the growth of the cooperative.

He also noted that if President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, during his 2026 national campaign, visits Kisoro and finds well-organized cooperatives, he might be compelled to offer his support.

Emmanuel Mbogha, the Zonal Manager at the Microfinance Support Centre Ltd, pledged the Centre’s commitment to supporting cooperatives and SACCOs in Kisoro District, with the aim of lifting communities out of poverty.

He further promised to help establish SACCOs at the sub-county level as a strategy to create employment opportunities for newly graduated youths in various communities.

Mbogha also encouraged residents to seek loans from SACCOs supported by the Microfinance Support Centre in order to access funds for key needs such as school fees for their children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Leo Mfitimana, an independent parliamentary candidate for Kisoro Municipality, pointed out that many people struggle financially because they lack sufficient land to grow cash crops or run sustainable businesses.

Presiding over the meeting, Kisoro District Council Speaker Amos Hakizimana called on the public to embrace hard work and make greater efforts in building strong Saccos.

He encouraged residents to invest in long-term projects and businesses that will generate lasting returns, noting that such investments are vital for achieving socio-economic development in the country.
