The handover, presided over by the District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ms. Sharifah Nakintu, at her office, signified a transition of leadership for the district’s education sector, celebrating past achievements while looking to the future.

Mrs. Beyendera confirmed to the press that her time in office was marked by substantial teacher recruitment, the strategic establishment of a secondary school in every sub-county, and extensive renovations of school infrastructure.

“We ensured a number of teachers were recruited, and we worked to see that every sub-county gets a Secondary School, among other developments,” Beyendera stated.

She charged her successor, Mr. Ndyabegyera, who previously served as the District Inspector of Schools, to foster collaboration with the entire education team, including district teachers, head teachers, and technical staff.

The district’s Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. Nakintu, credited the outgoing DEO’s resilient leadership and sound decision-making for the indelible mark she left on Rukiga.

“She has been a leader who stood firm in both hard and simple environments. The district has benefited from her great decisions in a big way,” Nakintu remarked.

Confident in a smooth transition under the new DEO, Mr. Ndyabegyera, Ms. Nakintu pledged her continued support to the incoming leadership and asked Mrs. Beyendera to remain available as a guide.

The formal handover was followed by a vibrant farewell party, attended by district technical staff, head teachers, political leaders, and teachers, which served as a testament to Mrs. Beyendera’s widespread influence and popularity.

The District Chairperson, Robert Kakwereere, highlighted the tangible results of her leadership, noting the district’s swift and continued rise in national education rankings to its current position of 15th in Uganda.

Primary and secondary school head teachers expressed gratitude for Beyendera’s role in their professional promotions and the unwavering support she provided throughout her tenure.

Adding his voice, the Rukiga District Speaker, the Rt. Hon. Oscar Akampurira, commended the outgoing DEO for being the driving force behind a significantly improved education sector.

The celebration was not without its festive flair, featuring a variety of activities including a chair dance, couple stick-moving games, water-filling competitions, and vibrant performances of locally composed songs and traditional Kikiga dances.
