RUKIGA, UGANDA – The Rukiga District Speaker and incumbent Male LC V Workers Councilor, Hon. Akampurira Oscar, has declared a commitment to comprehensively mobilize the district’s fractured workforce as the central pillar of his campaign for the next term.

The Speaker identified the critical lack of mobilization as the most pressing issue, noting that the district’s labor unions are not fully representative because the vast majority of workers are not organized under their umbrella.
Oscar Akampurira confirmed that this disconnection has a direct negative impact, fracturing the collective voice of the workforce and reducing its power.
He added that this fractured representation severely weakens workers’ collective bargaining power, hindering their ability to effectively advocate for essential improvements in wages, safer working conditions, and overall welfare benefits.
“My time in office has shown me the critical lack of mobilization among our workforce. Our labor unions remain unrepresentative because most workers are not organized under their umbrella,” stated Oscar Akampurira.
The District Speaker stated that a central manifesto pillar is rectifying this issue, pledging that if re-elected, his administration will unify Rukiga District’s workforce to foster common purpose and collective strength.
He also promised a comprehensive mobilization campaign to actively educate workers on the benefits of union membership, ensuring they are formally connected to their respective district labor unions.
Labor unions in Uganda, including the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), the Uganda Professional Science Teachers’ Union (UPSTU), and the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union (UNMU), have been steadfast advocates for the welfare and rights of their workers.
