Kabale, Uganda – Kabale District witnessed a significant political shift as Hon. Origumisiriza Enid Atuheire clinched the National Resistance Movement party ticket for Woman Member of Parliament in a tightly contested primary election held on July 17, 2025.
The returning officer, Ainebyoona Babra of the NRM Electoral Commission, announced that Atuheire secured 53,713 votes (53.2%) against her closest rival, incumbent Hon. Atwakiire Catheline Ndamira, who garnered 47,246 votes (46.8%), in an election that saw 100,959 total votes cast.
Hon. Atuheire’s victory marks a remarkable political comeback, with Returning Officer Babra specifically praising her perseverance and resilience after suffering defeat to Ndamira in the 2021 elections.
The win sets the stage for Atuheire to potentially succeed Ndamira, who has served in Parliament since 2016 and is currently completing her second term, should she triumph in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
The closely fought race, decided by a margin of just 6,467 votes, demonstrates the competitive nature of NRM’s internal democracy in Kabale District.
With the party ticket now secured, Atuheire will focus on consolidating support across the district as she prepares to face other political contenders in the general elections.
