Kasese, Uganda – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Kasese Municipality has elected new leaders, with Mr. Mulhondi Selvano emerging as the Municipal Party Chairperson.
Selvano will be deputized by Tumusiime Enid, also known as Kitaara, a news anchor at Rwenzori TV.
The elections, held at Rwenzori Square, saw other leaders elected, including Retired Bishop Nzerebendhe Jackson as the Elderly Chairperson and Aliganyira Baylor as the Youth Chairperson.
However, the election of the Publicity Secretary was closely contested between Isingoma Kenneth and Mumbere Brian, requiring police intervention to restore order.
According to Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime, the police were called to calm the situation, and Isingoma Kenneth was ultimately declared the winner.
Kasese District has historically been a battleground between the NRM and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), making the party’s efforts to strengthen its structures and appeal to voters critical in determining the district’s political trajectory.
