According to the Superintendent of Prisons (Livestock Development and Entomology) Ms. Generous Betunga Behabura, the training was focused on the critical role and effective management of canines in enhancing prison security.
Dr. Generous Betunga outlined essential aspects of canine management, including proper care, training techniques, and ethical handling of dogs in ensuring the humane and responsible treatment of dogs.
Guard dogs, renowned for their strength and protective instincts, are ideal for perimeter security and deterring threats trained expertly to follow scents, play a crucial role in locating missing persons or apprehending escapees.
Sniffer dogs, meanwhile, are instrumental in detecting contraband, effectively disrupting the flow of illicit substances within prison walls.
The training delved into the practical applications and benefits of utilizing canines for securing inmate custody and elevating overall operational standards in the service.
