KABALE, UGANDA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has secured a decisive victory across elective positions in South Western Uganda’s Kigezi sub-region.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The sweeping win signals a major political shift in a region where the party’s strength had faded, a change largely attributed to the on-the-ground mobilization by Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, Hon. Peace Rugambwa.
For years, the political landscape of Kigezi was characterised by deep-seated sectarianism, internal party conflicts, and security concerns, factors that had eroded public trust and contributed to declining NRM performance.
The narrative shifted during the recent election cycle, driven significantly by Hon. Peace Rugambwa, whose direct, on-the-ground engagement became a catalyst for party unity and renewed mobilization.
Moving beyond traditional party structures, Rugambwa facilitated a series of engagements with voters, focusing on the tangible achievements of the NRM government and outlining a vision for the region’s development.
Observers note that her message resonated by addressing aspirations for agricultural development and economic opportunity, which helped to bridge longstanding divisions.
This approach resonated with the electorate. Voters, previously disillusioned by infighting, responded with strong support at the polls.
Notably, several NRM flagbearers who had lost their seats in previous elections successfully reclaimed their positions. The results represent a potential shift away from the sectarian politics that have long influenced the region.
Rugambwa’s strategy of prioritizing collective development and direct engagement has demonstrated an alternative approach, focusing on common goals.
The region’s voters, having placed their trust in the NRM, will be watching closely to see the promises of this new chapter translated into reality.
