KAMPALA, UGANDA – Police in Kampala have apprehended a five-man gang linked to the murder of a police officer and a spate of aggravated robberies across the metropolitan area.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, CP Rachael Kawala, announced the breakthrough, detailing a coordinated operation in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District.
“The security agencies have arrested five suspects in connection with a series of aggravated robberies within the Kampala Metropolitan Policing area and recovered three firearms. The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation,” stated CP Kawala.
The suspects have been identified as Amutuhaire Robinson, a discharged former army personnel; Okello Daniel, a security guard employed by Fortebet; Kasango Arafat; Luyirika Joseph Innocent; and Alphonse Daniel.
During the raids, officers recovered three guns and three magazines, among other crucial exhibits. In a chilling development, CP Kawala revealed the suspects later confessed to the murder of ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo.
The officer was brutally gunned down on November 23, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., while on patrol along the Ntawo–Nyenje Road, acting on intelligence related to an impending armed robbery in the area.
Beyond the murder, the gang has admitted to carrying out several aggravated robberies, with a specific focus on mobile money operations within Kampala and its outskirts.
The confessions are expected to solve numerous pending cases that have terrorized local residents, while ongoing efforts to track down additional suspects indicate the investigation’s net is widening.
The successful operation marks a critical blow to organized violent crime in the region, offering a measure of justice for the fallen officer, ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, and providing relief to victims of the recent robbery wave.
