Bishop Mbitse Urges Believers to Wield Bible as a “Spiritual Weapon”

KISORO, UGANDA – The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, has declared the Bible an essential armament for believers, urging them to wield its power against modern-day spiritual battles.

The Bishop delivered this biblical plea during the confirmation of 205 people into the Christian faith, a service held at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Seseme Deanery, which marked a public commitment for the large group of confirmands.

Bishop Mbitse centered his sermon on the Bible as essential armament, arguing that navigating a world besieged by wars and moral decay requires unwavering faith and divine guidance.

“A Christian without a Bible is like a soldier without a gun. The Bible is a tool to fight against the plans of the devil. I encourage all believers to embrace it as their spiritual weapon to overcome the devil,” Bishop Mbitse declared.

The Bishop charged the newly confirmed to stay steadfast and seek God earnestly, underscoring that their confirmation was the beginning of a more profound, actively lived faith, not merely a ritual.

He called on the congregation to uphold the dignity of one another and to refrain from actions that tarnish the reputation of others, reinforcing the Christian values of love and unity.

The Bishop pointed to the construction of new worship buildings, aiding the needy, and giving back to God through time and financial resources as vital expressions of a living faith that serves both God and community.

In a timely socio-political admonition, Bishop Mbitse directly addressed the looming 2026 general elections, cautioning believers against the corrosive influence of corruption and specifically warning them not to accept bribes from corrupt leaders.

He urged the electorate to make discerning choices, voting for leaders who are genuinely committed to promoting integrity, justice, and sustainable community development.

The 205 newly confirmed Christians now step forward into a faith community charged with embracing the Bible as their guide and weapon in a complex world.
