Minister Harriet Ntabazi stated that the Government Land Inventory program is a transformative initiative to digitally map and document all Government-owned land nationwide.
She emphasised that the new unified database will serve as a critical tool to curb land grabbing, reduce disputes, protect public assets, and strengthen transparency and sustainable development across Uganda.
“This programme marks a turning point in our efforts to secure public land for the benefit of all Ugandans. For too long, Government land has been vulnerable to encroachment, fraud, and mismanagement. With the GLI, we are taking decisive action to protect these assets, ensure transparency, and lay a firm foundation for sustainable development,” stated Minister Harriet.
The Minister stressed that the GLI requires collective effort across government and society, tasking the Uganda Land Commission to partner with MDAs, Local Governments, cultural institutions, and community leaders.
Harriet Ntabazi urged all stakeholders, including district leaders and traditional custodians, to unite in securing Uganda’s land heritage for future generations.
“This is not a task for one institution alone. We call upon all stakeholders, from district leaders to traditional custodians of land, to join hands in this patriotic exercise. Together, we will secure Uganda’s land heritage for generations to come,” the Minister noted.
Uganda Land Commission Board member Kasenge John Fisher revealed that a National Stakeholder Engagement on the GLI will be hosted on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, bringing together representatives from across the country.
He emphasised that the landmark gathering will provide a platform for dialogue, coordination, and shared commitment to officially commence this transformative national initiative.
“This is our moment to unite. On 7th July 2026, we gather representatives from every region, sector, and community to officially launch the GLI. Together, we will build transparency and accountability that secures Uganda’s land for generations,” affirmed John Fisher.
The launch of the Comprehensive Government Land Inventory underscores the Government’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficient public resource management.
