KAMPALA, UGANDA – Police have confirmed the arrest of a key suspect in the brutal murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, 46, the Director of Students Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU).

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the suspect was apprehended on Saturday, 14th February 2026, at his hideout in Budaka District.
Kawala confirmed that the suspect was found in possession of the deceased’s property, which she described as a critical piece of evidence linking him to the murder.
“The suspect was arrested today at his hideout in Budaka District, where he was found in possession of the deceased’s property, a critical piece of evidence linking him to the murder,” SP Kawala stated.
The arrest brings a ray of hope for justice for the academic, whose life was tragically cut short in the early hours of Wednesday, 11th February 2026, at her residence in Gwafu West Village, Seeta Ward, Mukono District.
Police reports indicate that the incident occurred at around 2:00 AM, with the current houseboy telling investigators that he spotted an unknown man inside the deceased’s bedroom.
Ms. Tumwebaze was later found unresponsive and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, marking a distressing end to what investigators are treating as a violent crime.
According to police, the intruder was seen wearing the victim’s jeans and stockings before fleeing the scene with her laptop bag upon being spotted.
The houseboy and the deceased’s children later found her unresponsive in bed, and she was pronounced dead on arrival at Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital.
The breakthrough came just three days after the incident, with the arrest of the former employee in the eastern district of Budaka following an immediate manhunt to identify, trace, and apprehend the perpetrator.
