KABALE, UGANDA – Parents have been urged to place a high premium on education, which has been described as the cornerstone of community transformation and long-term development.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The call was made by the Rubanda District Health Officer, Dr. Abdon Birungi, while presiding over an award ceremony for outstanding learners at Lakeside Souls Nursery and Primary School.
The event took place at the school grounds in Kabirago Village, Rubaya Sub-county, Kabale District, where pupils were rewarded with scholastic materials for their exceptional academic performance.
The guest of honor, Dr. Abdon Birungi, emphasized that education is an important investment that yields dividends for both individuals and the community at large.
Reflecting on Rubaya’s transformation, Dr. Birungi noted that an area once known for having many uneducated people is now recognized across the country for its strong commitment to educating its children.
“Rubaya was once known in this region as an area with many uneducated people. However, that narrative has changed. Today, this area is recognized for its strong and inspiring commitment to educating its children, not just for Kigezi, but for the entire country,” Dr. Birungi stated.
The Health Officer shared a personal anecdote, revealing that his own academic journey began in the area when he scored 18 aggregates at Rwanyena Primary School in 1995.
That feat made him the best-performing pupil in the then Greater Rubaya Sub-county, a larger administrative unit that has since been divided into five sub-counties: Butanda, Kahungye, Byakarimira Town Council, Kibuga, and Rubaya.
Dr. Birungi donated mattresses to all Primary Seven pupils set to join Senior One, describing it as a practical gesture to motivate the candidates as they transition to the next level of their education.
The theme of giving back to one’s roots was echoed by Fadson Biryomumeisho Mihanda, the Kabale District Senior Accountant and a native of Rubaya. He donated books, pens, and soap to the three best-performing pupils who achieved first grades.
Through a message delivered by Dr. Birungi, Mihanda encouraged the community to embrace quality education as a vital way of remembering their background and contributing to their homeland.
The Director of the school, Mr. Atuhaire Steady, praised the school’s success, attributing it to dedicated teachers, disciplined pupils, and a strong commitment to academic excellence.
He announced several rewards for the learners, including the donation of three additional mattresses and scholastic materials to the pioneer candidates who sat for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) in 2025.
The Headteacher, Kemigisha Anita, expressed profound gratitude to the school directors for their motivation as she reported on the school’s maiden Primary Leaving Examination results.
She noted that all 12 candidates qualified for secondary school, with three pupils obtaining first grades and nine obtaining second grades in their first-ever PLE sitting.
Ms. Kemigisha added that the school is already strategizing to build on this success, expressing determination to achieve even better results in the 2026 examinations.
