KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the sudden death of Major General Deus Sande, the Commander of the Armored Division based in Masaka.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The tragic passing was confirmed on Wednesday by UPDF spokesperson Colonel Chris Magezi, who expressed deep sorrow over the military family’s second loss in four days.
According to the UPDF, the senior officer was travelling to Kampala to attend the funeral service of his comrade, the late Major General Francis Takirwa, who died on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
He was en route to the service scheduled at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero when he developed severe breathing complications, prompting his vehicle to divert to a hospital in Mpigi in a desperate attempt to save his life.Despite all efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead.
The exact cause of death will be determined later. The military extended its deepest condolences to his family, relatives and friends.
Major General Deus Sande, who hailed from Kacuro, Kigata in Kabale District, rose through the ranks to become a widely respected division commander and a prominent military leader from the region.
The UPDF is reeling from the loss of two major generals in four days, as news of Sande’s death, while travelling to the funeral of Major General Francis Takirwa, sent another wave of grief through an institution already in mourning.
