KABALE, UGANDA – Police have launched a full investigation into the tragic death of a local electrician who was fatally electrocuted while repairing a bedroom socket in Kabale.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the residence of Catherine Akahurira, the assistant administrator at the Kabale Chief Magistrate Court, in Karugashe cell, Central Division, Kabale Municipality.
Sources indicate that Akahurira called Gilbert to fix a socket in her bedroom, and he began working on it while she provided lighting using her phone.
When the electricity, which had gone off, came back on, Akahurira alerted Gilbert, but he insisted he knew what he was doing, given his experience.
Moments later, Akahurira found Gilbert seated, unresponsive, and gasping for breath. The landlord and others rushed him to Dr Anguyo’s clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed to this reporter that the police were notified of the death, and a team from CPS Kabale promptly visited the scene.
Maate added that scene examination, witness interviews, and a postmortem are ongoing as police confirm inquiries into the exact circumstances of the electrocution death.
