Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Works and Transport, in collaboration with the Uganda Police’s Directorate of Traffic, has suspended the operations of YY Bus for 15 days.
The decision follows a string of serious accidents attributed to reckless driving, including a recent incident on the Gulu highway beyond the Karuma checkpoint, which put passengers’ lives at risk and prompted authorities to take decisive action.
According to Hon. Byamukama Fred, the State Minister for Works and Transport, during the suspension period, a thorough review of YY Bus operations will be conducted.
Key areas of focus include inspecting driver badges and permits, reviewing driver schedules and training history, and investigating the use of aged, possibly underqualified drivers.
Minister Byamukama confirmed that the suspension aims to ensure public safety and enforce adherence to transport regulations.
YY Bus operations will remain suspended until a full review is completed and the company meets the necessary safety and regulatory standards.
The Ministry of Works and Transport and the Uganda Police’s Directorate of Traffic will closely monitor the situation to ensure compliance and protect public safety.
This action underscores the government’s commitment to reducing road accidents and promoting responsible transportation practices.
