Kampala, Uganda – UNAIDS Chief Winnie Byanyima, wife of Dr. Kizza Besigye, has sparked outrage in Uganda with her Pride Month message, advocating for LGBTQI+ rights despite the country’s strict laws against same-sex relationships.

Critics accuse her of promoting values that contradict Uganda’s cultural and moral norms.

Byanyima’s message has triggered intense debate among Ugandan lawmakers, activists, and citizens, raising questions about the role of international organizations in promoting LGBTQI+ rights in conservative countries.The controversy surrounds Byanyima’s family as well.

Her son, Anselm Besigye, has expressed his gender identity through fashion and style choices on social media, featuring dresses, skirts, and hairstyles that reflect his personal style.

Anselm has reportedly been associated with LGBTQ+ community activities, although details are scarce.

Notably, Col. Besigye opposed the anti-homosexuality bill introduced by MP David Bahati during the 9th Parliament, sparking speculation about his stance on LGBTQ+ issues.

Some Twitter users have also debated Anselm’s upbringing and parental involvement, following Winnie Byanyima’s recent post featuring her son, which drew significant attention and criticism.
