Kanungu, Uganda – Kanungu Police have released facial images of an unidentified woman whose body was discovered tied with ropes inside a sack and dumped in River Ntungwa over the weekend.

The gruesome discovery was made on the afternoon of August 2, 2024, when a group of young boys fishing in the river found a green sack submerged in the water.

Upon closer inspection, they discovered the lifeless body of an adult woman inside and immediately alerted the local chairperson of Kanabizo Cell, Ntungwa Parish, in Nyamirama Sub-County, Kanungu District.

The chairperson promptly dispatched his defense secretary, David Kasigeire, to report the incident to police.

Officers swiftly arrived at the scene to examine and document evidence before retrieving the body and transporting it to Kanungu Health Center IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and stated that the victim’s facial images had been released to the public in hopes that someone might recognize her.

“We urge anyone with information about this woman to come forward so that she can be identified and given a decent burial,” Maate said.

As investigations continue, police remain puzzled over both the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding her brutal killing. The body remains unclaimed at the mortuary as authorities intensify efforts to solve the case.
