Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched a manhunt for one of its officers who escaped with his service weapon loaded with ammunition.

The fugitive has been identified as Private (PTE) Kakulu Emmanuely of the 85th Battalion, who deserted his unit with his personal SMG rifle (No. 56-5814371) and 120 rounds of ammunition. His current whereabouts remain unknown.

Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that Kakulu hails from Kyangwazi District, Kiboga West County, specifically Butemba Sub-County, Byerima Parish in Kibuloka Village. His parents are Tibingana Emmanuely (father) and Turyasingura Beatrice Joy (mother).

Authorities confirm Kakulu was last seen in Kapchorwa’s reserve zone, urging public vigilance and immediate reporting of sightings to security forces while warning against confrontation.

Security agencies emphasize that harboring the armed and dangerous soldier particularly while he possesses military weapons constitutes a serious criminal offense.

Authorities are investigating his escape circumstances and motives, urging anyone with information to report to nearby police, military barracks, or emergency hotlines.
