Kisoro, Uganda – Security Forces in Kisoro have apprehended a suspect in connection with the theft of an SAR rifle from a security guard at Pearl Hotel in Kabale.

The suspect, identified as Hakizimana Emmanuel, also known as Zulunguriye Black, was intercepted by a joint patrol of police, UPDF, and UWA on April 20, 2025, at around 10:20 PM in Kashaija village, Rubuguri Town Council.

According to ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi Police Spokesperson, the patrol team stopped the suspect’s vehicle, but he attempted to flee, leading to a chase that ultimately resulted in his arrest.

Upon searching him, the authorities recovered an SAR rifle with the serial number 564210028-15120, which was later confirmed to be the same rifle stolen from Pearl Hotel on April 10, 2025.

ASP Maate confirmed that the stolen rifle had two rounds of ammunition at the time of theft, but only one round was recovered during the arrest.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect has a history of criminal activities, including robbery, theft, and trespassing.In 2021, he was released from Kabale’s Ndorwa Prison after serving a sentence for robbery.

In 2022, he broke into Mutanda Lake Hotel and stole items belonging to tourists, including money, cameras, and phones. Although he was arrested and charged, he was discharged due to lack of evidence.

The suspect also allegedly stole clothes from Kisoro police barracks in March 2024 and was subsequently arrested, convicted, and fined Shs 250,000.

Additionally, in December 2024, he was found cooking in Bwindi National Park by a joint UPDF and UWA patrol, but he escaped, leaving behind his documents.

The Police Spokesperson further stated that the suspect will be transferred to UPDF 2nd Division in Mbarara for further management and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
