Rukingiri, Uganda – The territorial police in Rukungiri are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two individuals who were allegedly murdered in separate incidents.
Sanyu Dinavence, a 56-year-old woman from Kakanyenye cell, Karuhembe parish, Kebisoni sub-county, was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Leo Tumwijukye, 59, on June 13, 2025, after he discovered another man in their home.
Tumwijukye was initially arrested for criminal trespass over the man who had accompanied his wife home after they had been drinking together and fallen asleep, but he then assaulted his wife, who later succumbed to her injuries at Royal Care clinic in Mabanga trading center.
Turyahikayo Benson, a 42-year-old resident of Rwakiriba Cell, Bugangari sub-county, Rukungiri, was allegedly murdered by unknown person(s) at his home on June 15, 2025, with his body discovered around 1:00 pm in Rwakiriba cell.
According to ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi Police spokesperson, the police are currently investigating both cases, working to apprehend the suspects, and urging anyone with information to come forward to assist, with prosecution to follow once suspects are brought to book.
