Kasese, Uganda – Ambassador Mbahimba Charles has emerged victorious as the winner of the Kasese NRM District Structure Elections, garnering 948 votes and surpassing Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, who secured 519 votes.
Dr. Kiyonga, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University and former NRM District Chairperson, was a strong contender, but Ambassador Charles’s impressive performance secured his win.
Despite a tense situation, the elections were closely monitored with beefed-up security, ensuring a smooth electoral process.
Ambassador Charles’s victory marks a significant development in NRM’s district leadership, with his experience expected to shape the party’s direction.
The NRM electoral process began on April 24, 2025, with nominations at the village and LC1 levels, followed by Parish Elections on May 12, Sub-County Elections on May 16, Municipal Elections on May 19, and District Elections on May 23.
The process will continue with Parliamentary Flag Bearer Elections on July 16 and culminate in Presidential Candidate Selection at Namboole.
