Kampala, Uganda – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Speaker of Parliament to postpone the parliamentary sitting scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025, to allow National Resistance Movement (NRM) members to participate in the elections of Local Council I (LCI) flag-bearers.
In a video statement posted on his official Twitter handle, Museveni confirmed that he will personally participate in the exercise at his home village in Rwakitura.
The First Lady, Janet Museveni, will participate in Ntungamo Ireenga, where she will take part in the verification of NRM village registers.
As the NRM Chairman, Museveni emphasized that he will maintain neutrality in the elections, welcoming any choice made by party members.
He urged all NRM members to report to their respective village centers by 10:00 AM on Tuesday to participate in the exercise and rally behind their preferred candidates.
The president’s directive to postpone the parliamentary sitting underscores the importance of the NRM exercise, which aims to elect flag-bearers for the party’s village structures.
By participating in the exercise, Museveni demonstrates his commitment to the party’s grassroots activities and encourages other members to do the same.
