Kisoro, Uganda – The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has launched a renewal exercise for identity cards for Kisoro Local Government workers, introducing a new system to facilitate the process for local government workers and other Ugandans.
The exercise, which commenced at the Kisoro District Council Hall, will initially focus on the district level before being extended to sub-counties to assess the system’s effectiveness.
NIRA has already begun expanding its services to parish and sub-county levels, starting yesterday, Wednesday, May 27, 2025.
According to Job Mugabi, Assistant Registration Officer of NIRA at the Kisoro branch, the entire process is expected to take six months to complete.
Notably, the exercise is free of charge, a departure from previous exercises where individuals had to pay UGX 50,000 for similar services.
