Kabale, Uganda – Kabale Territorial Police are investigating the mysterious death of an unidentified male whose decomposing body was found in the hills.
The decomposing body, estimated to be 35-40 years old, was discovered on Wednesday at around 7:00 AM by cattle keepers grazing animals in Pidda cell, Bugongi, Northern Division, Kabale District.
The cattle keepers immediately informed the area chairperson, who reported the matter to Kabale Police Station.
Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that a team of homicide detectives led by the district CID officer responded to the scene, examined and documented it, and recorded statements from witnesses.
The body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination, but despite efforts, it remains unidentified.
“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. The body remains unidentified and is at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary. We urge anyone missing a loved one to visit the mortuary for identification. Anyone with information about the death is encouraged to come forward,” said Elly Maate.
Maate further confirmed that inquiries are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and appealed for cooperation from the public.
This incident follows similar cases in the region, including the discovery of an unidentified man’s body in River Rwabakazi on November 4, 2023, and the lynching of two unidentified male adults in Kaliba village, Kaharo sub-county, on September 26, 2024.
