Kanungu, Uganda – A young casual laborer in Kanungu district has died in a suspected suicide incident involving the pesticide “Striker”, with the motive still unknown.
The deceased has been identified as Kwikiriza Ian, a 21 casual laborer from Kembeho cell, Kashuri parish, Kambuga sub-county, Kanungu district.
Sources indicate that on June 11, 2025, at around 11:30 am, Mbonimpa Vicencio received a phone call from Turinawe Kenneth, informing him that the deceased’s goats were still at home.
When Turinawe Kenneth and his mother went to check on Kwikiriza Ian, they found him unresponsive in his locked room; after breaking in, they discovered him lying face down on the mattress.
According to Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the incident was reported to the police, and a crime scene investigation revealed a small bottle of pesticide named “Striker” near the bed, along with vomit, raising suspicions of suicide.
Relevant statements were recorded, and a postmortem was conducted at Kihihi Health Centre IV, after which the body was handed over to the relatives for burial, while the police continue to conduct inquiries into the matter.
